Datuk Ong
Tee Keat, presently serving as Member of
Parliament Malaysia,
represents the District of Pandan since 2004. This district includes
parts of the
Selangor State and
Kuala Lumpur.
Datuk Ong also serves on as the Vice President of
Malaysian Chinese Association
(MCA) and the Deputy Minister of
Malaysia Higher Education
(MOHE). In 1990, Datuk Ong was appointed as the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives for 9 years. In 1999, Datuk Ong promoted to Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia. In this role, Datuk Ong worked to promote a conservative philosophy of less government, more freedom for youth, and individual responsibility. Datuk Ong Tee Keat was brought up in a fishmonger’s family, and nearly became a dropout at the age of 13 because of the sudden demise of his father when he was in Form One. He owe a lot to his late mother, who reversed the decision to send him to a workshop, otherwise he would have ended up as an apprentice somewhere in Kuala Lumpur. Datuk Ong Tee Keat and Datin Chooi Yoke Chun have been married and live in Taman Midah, Cheras with their three children. |
